Introduction to Chiron

“Chiron is an image of that in us which has been wounded unfairly by life, and by inescapable conditions which reflect failings and flaws in a collective psyche which is unfailingly clumsy in its efforts to progress.”

Liz Greene, Astrologer, Jungian Analyst and Author

Chiron. The planet that goes hand in hand with the Greek mythological legend of ‘The Wounded Healer’. That almost gives you the impression that this placement may well be a positive one. It can be. It is not always. Chiron in your chart usually represents a wound that does not heal. That ‘thing’ you can not get over. The house of its placement will give you an idea as to the root of the ‘thing’ (i.e house 3 – communication), but no chart really needs to tell you what your ‘thing’ is, although it could help you to relate to the issue more.

No-one likes an issue eating away at them. Yes, we can be brilliant at masking the issue, but still, it exists. No amount of mask wearing will budge it – until you act to heal whatever wound has occurred. This often involves painful processes. Kill or cure. A spoonful of sugar, drastic measures… you get the idea. It can be deep and nasty. Like opening up a can of worms!

Here comes the positive. You can turn the Chiron wound into the source of potential strength with good old brutal honesty, seeking appropriate advice, appropriate action, and compassion. That takes hard work but leads to healing – resilience even. Perhaps the desire to help others who have suffered a similar issue to you.

As with all wounds, there is a possibility of physical or emotional scarring – in the legend of Chiron, his wound never healed. As is the case with Chiron in real life, there is always some scars that we all suffer through life. Be assured though that what is scarred and survives, becomes stronger, wiser and then perhaps you become ‘The Wounded Healer’ you were destined to become. To help others. That is why most of us are here.

It’s only when we identify where the pain is coming from with Chiron, with  thought and compassion, that any of us can do anything about our pain.  In following posts, I shall go into more detail about the placement of Chiron. It is a fascinating element of a natal chart to get to know, I hope you feel the same!
